Spanish Amateur Radio Union EG8FOR
Orchilla Lighthouse
Tenerife Amateur Radio Union

On May 30 to June 1, 2008, we activated this lighthouse located in El Hierro island, and it was the first amateur radio operation in this place. Orchilla Lighthouse is on the westernmost point in Spain, and it was on the ancient zero meridian, until 1884 when Greenwich became the zero meridian.

We want to thank the Ports Authority in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, El Hierro Island Council, the El Pinar Municipality and the Telecoms Authority for their valuable co-operation.

In this operation, besides the usual confirmation cards (QSL), we offered a colorful certificate to whom made several contacts with the expedition.
